The Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises Project for the Niger Delta (LIFE-ND) joined the global community in commemorating World Food Day across the nine Niger Delta states, reaffirming its commitment to promoting food security, sustainable agriculture, and improved livelihoods for rural households.

The celebration provided an opportunity for LIFE-ND to highlight the importance of agriculture in driving economic growth, strengthening local food systems, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural women and young people. Through its agribusiness incubation model, the project continues to support beneficiaries in developing viable agricultural enterprises across selected value chains, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and support needed to improve productivity and build sustainable businesses.

Across the nine participating states, the commemoration underscored the importance of collaboration among government institutions, development partners, agricultural stakeholders, and farming communities in addressing food insecurity and advancing inclusive agricultural development. It also reinforced the need for climate-smart agricultural practices, improved access to agricultural resources, and innovative approaches that enable farmers and agripreneurs to respond effectively to emerging challenges in the sector.

As a project supported by the Federal Government of Nigeria, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), LIFE-ND remains committed to empowering disadvantaged rural women and youth through sustainable agribusiness development, enterprise creation, and value-chain participation.

The World Food Day celebration served as a reminder that achieving food security requires collective action, sustained investment in agriculture, and the active participation of rural communities. Through its interventions across the Niger Delta, LIFE-ND continues to contribute to the broader goal of building resilient food systems, improving household livelihoods, and promoting a more food-secure future for Nigeria.

LIFE-ND — Empowering rural women and youth, strengthening agribusiness, and contributing to a food-secure Niger Delta.
