Cocoa is the major cash crop cultivated in Nigeria and Ondo State is in the fore-front in the farming of cocoa.
In the LIFE-ND project, Ondo Is the only state which practices Cocoa as an enterprise. The project has impacted the lives of its beneficiaries in cocoa rehabilitation, nursery, marketing and pruning.
Femi Olofingbasote is an indigene of Alade community in Idanre Local Government Area, Ondo state. He was an incubatee of LIFE-ND mentored by Alade Multipurpose Cooperative Enterprises (incubator), now a proud cocoa farmer. With IFAD interventions, Femi Olofingbasote was able to raise 20,000 cocoa seedlings in nursery which translated to 20ha of cocoa plantation.
Femi recorded a profit margin of ₦250,000 in his first production cycle from the sales of cocoa seedlings. Today, Femi Olofingbasote is a LIFE-ND Incubator with five (5) incubatees to be trained on cocoa rehabilitation.
