A project for the Niger-Delta

The overall goal of LIFE-ND is to realize a transformed rural economy in which the rural population can derive prosperity and equal benefit. The project development objective is to enhance income, food security and job creation for the “Disadvantaged” that is the rural unemployed and underemployed youth and women through Agri-enterprise development on a sustainable basis in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. The achievement of the project objective at the end of the project life will be measured by the following indicators

  • 38,250 (IFAD 25,500 AND NDDC 12,750) direct beneficiaries of youth and women Agri-enterprises directly strengthened or created resulting in profitable agribusiness and related paid services providing stable income for enhanced food security and sustainable livelihood.
  • 50 percent increase in volume of produce by direct beneficiaries.
  • 50 percent increase in volume of marketed produce by direct beneficiaries.
  • 25 percent value addition is realized through processed produce/products by the beneficiaries.
  • 50 percent increase in profit is realized by direct beneficiaries engaged in Agri-enterprises.
  • 80 percent of direct beneficiaries (20,400) have increased their food security.
  • 80 percent of direct beneficiaries (20,400) have increased their assets by 50 percent and above.
  • 50 percent of rural institutions promoting youth-based profitable Agri-enterprises are supported and strengthened.
  • 80 percent of direct beneficiaries (20,400) engaged in improved product handling and marketing practices.
  • Beneficiaries have access to over 30,000 ha of land for agribusiness and
  • 10,000 beneficiaries are ICT empowered through the using of improved technologies.
