Fishery contributes 2% to the national GDP of Nigeria. The sector provides employment to a substantial portion of the country’s population especially in the rural areas of the country. Fishery contributes an annual domestic supply of 400,000 tonnes and 40% intake of animal protein consumption in the country.
In the LIFE-ND project, all the 6 (IFAD Funded) states except Abia state practice fishery as an enterprise. The project has impacted the lives of its beneficiaries in fish production, aquaculture, artisanal fishery, fish marketing, fingerling production and fish processing.
Mr. Humphrey Onovughe is a Fish Production entrepreneur who has always had an interest in becoming a successful fish farmer and he believes that it would be impactful on humanity. Upon the intervention of IFAD through the LIFE-ND project, he is able to manifest this dream of his.
